A too high correction of underpackaging situation can lead to overpackaging. A too high correction of overpackaging situation can lead to underpackaging.
Use a complete LCA evaluation approach to evaluate the new packaging or better use LCA model for optimization scenarios.
Build a complete LCA model including the relationships between packaging functionality / shelflife / and food waste.
Identify variables of optimization (e.g. packaging thickness).
Use the model to determine the optimum situation.
Consider different scenarios of optimization , i.e. different variables for packaging optimization (low to high efficiency, over to under packaging) ; thickness is only an example for simple illustration.
