The objective of the BRCGS standard is to support companies in complying with legal requirements in terms of the safety of manufactured products, in particular for: • Produce packaging that does not pose a threat to human health; • Set up a manufacturing environment that guarantees minimization of the risk of product contamination; • Use raw materials or ingredients which are not harmful to human health; • Preserve, protect and contain products adequately throughout the logistics chain and throughout the life of the product; • Ensure that the legal information on the product is visible to the consumer.

For companies, certification according to the BRCGS standard requires compliance and implementation of the following actions:

• Management commitment: the resources required to demonstrate commitment to meet the requirements of the Standard are detailed in part II, section 1.

• A hazard and risk analysis plan define the significant dangers in terms of safety relating to products and processes. These hazards need to be controlled specifically to ensure the safety of individual packaging materials or product lines as described in Part II, Section 2.

• A product quality and safety management system: the organizational and management policies and procedures defining a framework enabling the company to meet the requirements of this Standard are detailed in part II, section 3.
